Will Metaverse Flop?
Updated: Oct 19, 2022
Since Facebook, now Meta, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the concept of the Metaverse in October 2021; questions and conversations around it have begun to circulate.
As techies and marketers patiently await the few years it will take to truly see how consumers will integrate Metaverse into their daily lives, NordVPN offers some clarity on what Americans are feeling in the present.
It comes to no surprise the biggest concern (amongst the excitement) is cybersecurity as NordVPN notes 87% of people are most concerned about the affects Metaverse will have on their privacy.

So will it flop?
In the hour long keynote, Zuckerberg noted, "Privacy and safety need to be built into Metaverse from day one," asserting the newly rebranded platform is focused on the new forms on governance, ecosystem building, and norm-setting it will take to make Metaverse a marketable reality.
Despite privacy concerns and Facebook making it onto the annual list of biggest breaches, 74% of Americans say they still would at least consider joining Metaverse and 42% believe Metaverse will truly be the "next platform in media" as Zuckerberg described.
